A couple of months back I posted an article describing how we can apply wisdom of ancient sacred sexual practices in our modern lives. In particular I wrote about using some of the techniques of mindfulness, ritual, and sensuality to overcome our inability to be fully present in the moment of intimacy due to being “stuck in our head” with anxiety, worry, insecurity, or simply the distraction of day to day pressures.
The Modern Lover’s Guide To Ancient Sexual Secrets
We’ve previously discussed the perils of porn in terms of the way it skews men’s expectations and anxieties about sexual intimacy. These effects tend to manifest as an excessive focus on the physical at the expense of emotional/energetic/spiritual elements of the sexual experience. In this article you will learn some practices based on ancient Tantric a…
Whilst these techniques have a profound effect on the people who practise them, I find it difficult to keep them front of mind. Over weeks or months they fade from my attention, replaced by other obligations and priorities that bring me back to a state of distraction. This creates a cycle of reading, practising, understanding, and forgetting. I feel like gaining any sense of mastery of these skills will have to wait until retirement!
Can Technology Break the Cycle?
Most of the knowledge about sacred sexuality is tied up in books. Like many of you, I seldom have the opportunity to devote time and attention to reading books, so this becomes the limiting factor determining the speed of the cycle. Instead of books, I depend on audio content supplemented by online articles to feed my mind in moments of downtime.
Biyaku
Biyaku has the potential to make Tantra and similar teachings accessible to busy folks like us in convenient bite-sized lessons. The Biyaku Substack hosts a collection of articles describing the lessons and meditations aimed at helping people improve their sex lives, giving us a glimpse into the type of content to expect from their newsletter and app. The app launched this week, and promises to bring even more content and structured learning paths directly to your phone or tablet.

Content Highlights
Biyaku’s app promises meditations and lessons of 10-15 minutes in duration. I think we can all make time for 10 minutes of mindful listening a few times a week. Here are a couple of examples that caught my attention and I look forward to trying:
Tantric Breathwork for Enhanced Libido
Tantra suggests that the thing a person needs for a better sexual life is the person him/herself.
We use a short breath practice to raise our own libido:
Guided Meditation To Define Your Boundaries
Tantra suggests that a person should know their likes and dislikes. It's liberating.
We use a guided meditation for that:
Share Your Thoughts!
Go on, find two or three 15 minute blocks in your busy schedule to check out some of these meditations and see what you think. I will do the same. If you find a particularly interesting or high-impact lesson, please share it with the Bed Bars & Beyond community by leaving a comment below! If this works, we might just break the cycle of forgetting and relearning. Who knows where that might lead?!?
